There really is not any 'ferret litter" ,so it comes down to choice of
different cat litters. Wood pellets,feline pine, recycled newspaper
pellets,like yesterday's news are sold as kitty litter, but can be
used safely for the ferrets. Also, the nonclumping cat litter should
be ok ( although I find it too 'dusty' and messy when the ferrets dig
in it,etc).
IT is the clumping litter that should be avoided, and/or the ones with
stuff in it like crystals/beads, that may be potentially harmful if
ingested.
and no pine bedding, or cedar chips, or anything like that should be used.

I like yesterdays' news personally, or wood stove pellets, which are
really really cheap in comparison.
