In my experience surgery alone has not solved the problem, even when
both glands have been removed. I really don't understand how it could
when surgery does not stop hormone production from the pituitary,
which is where the problem stems from.

**If all the active adrenal tissue has been removed, the problem of
hyperadrenocorticism will go away, regardless of any pituitary involvement. However,
you then have to deal with Addison's disease. Personally, I don't have much
trouble dealing with Addison's disease, IME, so prefer surgery regardless of
which (or if both) gland is affected.

In response to the person who posted that the left adrenal cannot involve
anything vital - not true. I have seen several very large adrenal masses that
engulfed the left kidney, causing problems there. I recommend surgery, as early
as possible, with any case of hyperadrenocorticism if the ferret is a good
surgical candidate.**
