I am putting these together because they raise a very intriguing
question set!
They arose largely because of a goof I made in a moderator's comment,
but I suspect that the questions have value! Would a deslorelin DEPOT
that a compounding pharmacy could make work? Deslorelin and Lupron
are related compounds so perhaps a deslorelin depot could work? It
would not last as long as an implant and since it would have to be
compounded it would cost more, but...
Here they are slightly out of order because i think they make more
sense that way, starting with Tressie's response to Joan and
questions, then my note, then Tony's, then Tressie's other question:
TRESSIE TO JOAN WHO IS QUOTED (AND ALSO IN RELATION TO MY GOOF, ALSO
QUOTED)
have been trying to find out this information for several months. My
vet had also requested that I try to find out. I had given up hope
since no one was able to answer that question. I knew it was available
for use in horses here in Canada. Your post prompted me to contact a
veterinary compounding pharmacy in Ontario I recently learned about.
I just got off the phone with the pharmacist and indeed they can
compound a Deslorelin Depot for use in ferrets but need to know what the
dose would be. He also said they could make it up in a 3 month depot,
he was reluctant to say they could do a yearly depot.
Sukie or anyone, would you have the reference for what dose is being
used in Europe or at the clinical trial level in the U.S. for use in
ferrets?
I'd be grateful! This is very good news for us in Canada.

ME:
My acknowledgement of my blatant error (saying DEPOT when an IMPLANT
is used for deslorelin):
Shoot! I perhaps was not thinking!
I believe the longer form used of that is an implant.
Lupron on the other hand requires a depot.
I can't recall which one someone wrote about earlier today and since
the message
section in
Yahoogroups has been lagging by days in the last week I can't check.
perhaps I didn't mess up, but i think I think i might have said
something that
was part
deslorelin and part Lupron in a moderator's note. My time has been
very, very
short and
very, very rushed. Sorry. The FML requires a lot of work. Trimming off
long
quoted sections,
dealing with spam and spammers, checking messages for rule violations,
etc. all
add up. So,
apologies and hope you understand if i did goof.

Sugar's implant is Suprelorin 4.7mg.
http://ferrethealth.org/archive/FHL5964
Note this is a 12 month implant not a depot, may last only 8+ months
Available in Europe from Virbac SA
Tony (not a vet), Sugar and Suki.
In memory of Sally and Sue.

TRESSIE:
Unfortunately, they don't do an implant but this particular pharmacy
have said they could compound a Deslorelin Depot.
Should I presume then that an injectable Deslorelin Depot will not
work?? Does anybody knw?
