A question that is an off-shoot.
Given that metacam is a NSAID is there a chance that it
might be useful for ferrets with advanced cardiac disease
who have begun having thromboses?
Ever since Meltdown had so many of those I am always
wondering about treatment options for such individuals.
She was the one who was expected to die at any time because
she had ventricular bigemini and some trigemini with her
dilated cardiomyopathy but then Digoxin and other meds
got her about a year and a half more. (As far as I know she
was the first ferret on enalapril which we had because our
vet at the time had a cardiac research connection and some
human cardiac researchers at a conference got involved.
I can't recall if it was newly released or was still experimental
then, but I think the former.)
Anyway, I am always wondering about medication options
for such ferrets to reduce the numbers of dangerous clots
thrown. The NSAID tried at the time caused a bleed-out
which almost killed Meltie.
