That sounds like you have acquired a new male in the Australian springtime. My
suspicion is that he is going into rut.
In the FHL archives you will find information on bringing him out of rut with either a
temporary medical neutering by using a deslorelin implant (not only available in Australia,
but made there), or the alternative of having him altered.
If he is in rut that is going to add to the nippiness, and if you happen to handle a female
who is in heat before you handle him he may react as if you are her and then you could
get a more serious bite (happened to a friend years ago while I was there and as we
cleaned the wound she kept saying, "It's my own stupid fault; I knew better.").
I hope that breeding is not of interest to you unless you have learned about ferret genetic
problems first, the environmental, behavioral, nutritional and medical needs of pregnant
females and kits, and have gotten a full medical and longevity history for both lines.
His behavior will probably clear up once he has deslorelin in him or is altered. Should
that not be the case keep this URL even though it is for more serious ones because the
things in the URL itself have been good though not all of the links from the main series
are:

Oh, and a whole male who is in rut at times will pose a danger to other ferrets.
