We've been in the same position with a ferret who had not only severe
pneumonia but also pleurisy. Her chest images were almost opaque
due to how extreme her lung infection was. Yet she sounded normal
by stethoscope and was barely coughing.
It's something people encounter time and time again. In the last month
I think that three people I've advised to have their ferrets' lungs x-rays
learned that the ferrets had pneumonia.
So, we are in the habit when the possibility exists of getting chest x-rays.
