I kind of suspect that the sentence was poorly written and the author
was actually indicating a correlation of extended steroid use and a
depressed immune system leading up to an onset of opportunistic
infections.

Today (Sunday) is the first day of everyone being off all meds and
except for an occasional weak cough or sneeze, they seem to be back to
normal. Crystal's weight has bounced right back. Bugsy is picking up
quickly as a result of a tremendous appetite, which I am happily
obliging him.

Pneumonia certainly seems to be a very serious concern for ferrets and
apparently quite varied in its onset as well as display of symptoms.

Guess I'll just have to chalk this experience up to they caught some
"flu bug".

I am happy that it did NOT spread through ALL of them!

SOmething I HAVE noticed is that the medicated ferrets exude a sort of
"sour" smell. I snuffle everbody several times a day and none of them
have any noticeable odor.

Even Roman's very strong grape odor disappeared some time ago. I'm
thinking this new smell is related to the meds and how it is affecting
their body. I'll expect it to dissipate as the medicine gets flushed
completely and their systems readjust.

It is very nice to see them romping and picking on everyone again.

Cheers,
Kim
