Subject: [ferrethealth] Update on Bella the ferret
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Thanks to everybody who replied to my post about Bella. She was
diagnosed yesterday with an ultrasound, they found a 4mm tumour on her
pancreas. The vet said they don't know until they do exploratory
surgery if it has metastasised to her liver. Would a tumour that has
grown that large (when you compare it to the size a ferret's pancreas
would be!) already have metastitised? I would think so. I will discuss
things with my partner, but hopefully we will book her in for
exploration and removal of the tumour next week. The vet said to start
prednisolone in the meantime as well. What is other people's
experience with life expectancy following removal of a pancreatic
tumour? Bella is nearly 6 years old already. how long will it likely
take to regrow? do you give her prednisolone after surgery as a
preventative step, or wait until she gets symptoms again?

Thanks for your help,
Mackenzie
