Dannee Devoree notes: "It sounds like they may all be improving at
this point, and that is good.
In the future, though, when you think that pneumonia might be a
possibility,
it is best to request an x-ray if the vet does not suggest it."

Yes, suspicion of pneumonia was at the forefront of my mind when just
listening to them cough, however I pretty much deferred to the vet's
"experience(?)" and took a we'll try this first approach.

Which from several responses here and some research may not have
turned out as successfully as it has in this case.

What is the general consensus when dealing with coughing ferrets? Do
most folks try at least one run of anitbiotics first, before delving
into more diagnostics and treatments?

Like so many of us here I don't have an endless purse and opting for
expensive diagnostics from the get go would not always be prudent.

Would ten dys be too long to wait to see a response from the meds? As
noted I was seeing a response much sooner - more at the 5 day mark -
so if they hadn't been responding, then I definitely would have pushed
for more diagnostics.

Just wondering how others in a similar situation would approach this.

Cheers,
Kim
