Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: New surgical treatment for right adrenal gland disease??
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I just talked to my vet a few weeks ago about right adrenal surgery.
There is a new surgery out, it is a 2-part surgery. The first surgery
they go in and put a metal or plastic band around the artery(can't
remember the name) and close them up. The band gradually cuts off the
blood flow to the adrenal gland while allowing new veins to grow in its
place to supply blood to the right adrenal gland. after 6 weeks, they
go back in, new veins are supply blood to the adrenal gland and they
can remove the tumor without losing blood supply to the adrenal gland,
or causing other problems. He trained under the guy that perfected it
and had just finished the second surgery just before I talked to him.
The ferret is doing great and the surgery was successful. This is the
only new surgery I have heard about.
