Sukie----my pharmacist has told me that many medications are safe and
effective up to several years past the expiration date. Those that
aren't mostly just no longer work. He has, in the past, sold me
Pediapred that was recenty expired, which he couldn't sell to people.
He said it was good up to five years after expiration, though I
certainly wouldn't use any that old.

Not all drugs go "bad" when they expire, just as many foods are fine
for a good while after the expiration date. I have used medications
that were expired by a few months, such as cold medications, etc. I
wouldn't use "life and death" drugs that were expired. The best advice
you can give is to tell folks to talk to a pharmacist about the
particular drugs that have expired.
