Subject: [ferrethealth] Baby: unspecified liver problems.
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Baby had surgery this morning.=A0 Surprisingly there were no adhesions.=A0 =
Liver was pink, sandy texture, very large, soft edges.=A0 No nodules or oth=
er obvious specific areas of trouble with the liver noted. Spleen enlarged.=
=A0 Lymph nodes around stomach enlarged.=A0 Gall bladder full; didn't seem =
to want to drain, but the bile duct was not blocked.=A0 Stomach full but in=
testines mostly empty.=A0 Removed spleen.=A0
=A0
Biopsies of the liver were done and will be back in a week or so.=A0 Blood =
values very similar to last time except=A0WBC up a little, and ALT down a l=
ittle (from like 350 to 318).=A0 Weight has been maintained.
=A0
We are going to try to keep him going.=A0 He will get Hill's L/D canned foo=
d and a supplement called Denamarin to help with his liver.=A0 We are going=
to do the metronidazole and amoxi for another 3 - 4 weeks.=A0
=A0
As far as we can tell, at this point, this looks like one of the very rare =
(according to literature) instances of nonspecific hepatitis.=A0
=A0
Baby hides a great deal, so I am going to have to cordon off the dining roo=
m and move the furniture, etc., so that he can basically live in there.=A0 =
I hate to restrict his movements, but he hides SO well that I often cannot =
find him for 18 hours at a time, and he does not respond to his name, the s=
ound of treats, etc., any more, and that will never work with the antibioti=
cs schedule.=A0
=A0
If anyone has any=A0suggestions, I would appreciate hearing them=A0ASAP.=A0=
=A0
Thanks --
F. =A0=A0=A0
