WHITE petrolatum has long had that laxative use,
including for humans, just as mineral oil has.
(Mineral oil can cause cramping, though, so better
not to use for that use.)
There are even mineral oil and white petrolatum
products for eye protection.
Now, yellow and brown petrolatum are an entirely
different matter and definitely not safe. There is a
lot on this in the archives with expert resources in
at least one post.
