8 years is kind of old, but you and the vet must determine if he is strong =
enough and otherwise healthy enough to handle surgery and the needed recove=
ry period.
IF you decide to do this double surgery, you also need to understand the ef=
fects it will have on him. He will need certain meds to avoid Addisons Dise=
ase. If you haven't already, you really need to read this link about Addiso=
