ok lets make it obvious who here REALLY knows what they are talking about who has a SERIOUS degree like a master's and above in animal sciences. or better yet how many have had ferrets live to be ten yrs or older I have had 5. So I think I know what I'm talking about because in 16+ yrs I have never had an insulinoma or adrenal problem.

Actually, ferrets do need a higher fat diet. Some of it depends, of course, on the stage of life. You don't want to overload an older ferret with a lot of fat.

Breeding ferrets, pregnant and lactating jills, and particularly youngsters (under a year old) need more energy and more fat in their diet. They are using more calories on a daily basis than your average house pet ferret and definitely benefit. I have seen the difference and through my own experience of ferrets gaining and losing weight have learned to make sure more fat is included as part of their diet at certain times.

You need to start stating figures. I look for around 18% - 20% fat in my kibble foods. Since I also feed a natural diet, my ferrets also get the fat that is under the skin and mixed in with the meat of the prey animals I feed.

Am I going to give them a big 'ole hunk of beef fat? No, not really. But at certain times I make sure they are getting all the skin and fat and there are other times I might cut back a bit.

Beware of blanket statements. Ferrets are mammals, but they are not humans. They have a different metabolism and different nutritional needs.
