Subject: [ferrethealth] ECE- What can I get her to eat?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Our family purchased 2 new baby ferrets last weekend. We kept them
seperate from our 2 older females for a few days, but there was no
sign of the kits being unhealthy. On the 5th day one of our older
girls developed green green poop. She spent an entire night
vomiting, stopped eating and only drinks a small bit when forced to.
She is quite dehydrated. We have never dealt with ECE in our 10+
years of ferret ownership, but have definitely read a lot recently.
We have spoken to our vet who agrees with the diagnosis.

Anyway, I have tried every version of duck soup that I can find and
she refuses to eat anything with meat in it. She has never been a
big meat fan (some of our ferrets will eat it raw)and hates chicken
baby food. She usually eats Totally Ferret and 8-1 Ultimate. At this
time the only thing I can get into her is a bit of Nutri-cal and
whipping cream.

Today, my husband remembered that she use to sneak eat baby food
cereal when it was made. We tried some rice based Pablum, and she
ate 2 Tbsp. eagerly.

I know that it is not good for her to eat this, but at least it gets
a bit of water into her. Any insight about how to use this, but not
make her more sick, would be appeciated.
