Subject: [ferrethealth] Baby: clarfication on diet + cheaper Carnivore Care source
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Thank you all for the food suggestions.=A0 I feel I should clarify, however=
.=A0 It is not that Baby will not eat *anything*.=A0 He is very happy to ea=
t kibble and Carnivore Care.=A0 It is that I was hoping to find an alternat=
e diet suggestion that would be suitable for a ferret with a damaged liver.=
=A0=A0 (Yes, we are waiting on biopsies to confirm, but that is what the ve=
t thought based on the surgery and appearance of the liver).

We were trying the Hill's L/d because it is specially designed not to stres=
s the liver in cats with liver disease.=A0 The theory that the food is form=
ulated on is that if you feed food with less protein, and vegetable-based p=
rotein, and lower fat, that it lets the liver work less, and thus increases=
the chance that the liver can regenerate.=A0

I was hoping that someone else would have an idea on food that would be sui=
table for a damaged liver.=A0 It appears that we'll just have to go on with=
what we're doing, and hope for the best.

By the way, for those of you that use carnivore care on a long-term basis, =
it is available from www.calvetsupply.com in=A0 a very large 32 oz bucket f=
or $35 plus shipping.=A0 That is MUCH cheaper than buying the individual 4-=
oz packets for $12 - 15 each!=A0 I have another ferret that *only* eats car=
nivore care, so I usually buy 5=A0 - 6 buckets at once.=A0 So long as they =
are unopened, they have a long shelf life.

Best regards,
F.
