Personally, I have found that a very bland diet is best in these
situations. I mix a can of A/D, a jar of meat baby food, and water,
mixing with a hand mixer. If he will eat it on his own, great. If
not, it easily goes through a syringe. For added calories, you could
add a tablespoon of Dyne or something similar. I think when they are
old and sick, the simplest food is the best.
I have one old guy who eats absolutely nothing on his own anymore. I
feed the above at 30cc, 3 times a day. I leave softened kibble in
his cage, but he doesn't even touch it anymore.
If there seems to be any discomfort, try giving Carafate/Sucralfate
prior to each feeding.
