This also sounds like a huge dose to me. Mind you, I am no vet, but
I have had many ferrets with insulinoma on prednisolone. I use the
liquid Pediapred (5mg/5mL) or its generic equivalent, both available
from a human pharmacy. My vet normally starts at about 0.35 mg
twice a day. I go up or down from there, depending on results. In
the case of a crash, I might give as much as 1mg once or twice.
Then, I go back down to the lower dose. On occasion, we have to go
to three doses a day if crashes occur. It does wear off after 8-9
hours.

Your vet may think differently, but my vet thinks you should start
with the lowest possible dose which controls it, both to give you
room to move up as needed and to do the least amount of
stress/damage on the tummy.

I know you already know this, but be sure to give with food.
