When a person thinks about it, 30% fat is really not a huge amount.
Few people eat as little as 30% because people tend to forget that
there is hidden fat. That is especially true for meats and some
organs. You can get rid of a lot by trimming but the hidden fat
remains.
We don't personally use Pretty Pets Food, but I lacked time to look
up the ones we do use like Totally Ferret (which has Dr. Tom Willard
and his wife, Trish, as the founders) and I knew offhand that the
Pretty Pets food had that ~50% protein level specifically because it is
the same as for mice and chicks. (An allergy here prevents use of Pretty
Pretty Pet, and we have to limit protein for two who get cystine uroliths
at protein levels above 35%. Cystine uroliths are caused when the
are unable to deal normally with any of four amino acids: Cystine,
Ornithine, Lysine, and/or Arginine.)
Just wanted to let you know that I certainly know WHICH foods
Performance Foods/Totally Ferrets makes. We use those foods, and
besides, both Tom and Trish not only know what they talk about,
but they are great huggers, too! (Can you tell that I value as people,
too? :-) )
Ann, you would have loved Dr. Bob Wagner's lecture! The IFC
Symposium was such a win for learning opportunities.
