Subject: [ferrethealth] Need help! lethargy, spasms, weakness, weak hind end
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello,
I am new to this group, but not new to ferret ownership. I've had my
little girl for 8 years now, but her health has slowly been
declining. She's extremely weak, particularly in her back end, and
wobbles so badly when she walks that she falls over every 5-7 steps.
It doesn't seem to bother her, she just gets back up and pursues
whatever it was she was after. She's blind, as far as I can tell -
no cloudiness in her eyes, but she runs into walls, doors, her own
cage, etc. I don't think she has much hearing left either. She's
somewhat lacking control of her bowels too. She rarely makes her
dooking noise, or any sort of noise.
I am at a loss, as this has been my first and only pet ferret (I got
her before starting high school, and now I'm a senior in college).
She's active (as much as an old lady typically is), eats very well,
has most or all of her teeth, and has a full healthy coat, except for
some thinning hair on her tail. I don't want to cut her life short
by euthanasia, but I absolutely do not want her to be in a constant
state of pain, or suffering. Lately, she's been having a lot of
twitchy, spasm sort of movements. Right now, she's laying in her
cage with her head lifted up, and is swaying/rocking gently back and
forth, while kind of looking around (if she could see). It's like,
she wants to be awake and active, but doesn't have the energy to.
Has anyone been through a similiar situation? What would you guys
reccomend?
Thanks for reading,
-Kiara
