Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] Abnormal Large Spleen
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
When my ferret was operated upon ( because of insulinoma and liver and gal =
problems but 1 yr ago also operated on adrenal problems, and now on the new=
method used for this cause: an implant that is also used to "castrate"a fe=
rret, i can t recall the name at this moment, but when it pops up in my hea=
d i ll let you know=A0), he had an enlarged spleen too.
[Deslorelin implant for ferrets but it is not available
yet in all countries, including not in the U.S. It is used
quite a bit in some other nations including the
Netherlands. -- Mod]
It was n t removed, The only time my vet removes spleen s is:
1
if there is a plausible possibillity of bleeding in near future ( spleen no=
t only just enlarged, but also deformed)
2
when spleen gives too much pressure on other organs.e. g. the stomach.
=A0
The enlarged spleen is often seen by ferrets but can stay in if it doesn t =
give problems.
The size of Jopies spleen will never return to normal, but still, his recov=
ery is goin well.
Probably Jopie has to stay on antibiotics for the rest of his life because =
of his problems.
But still, he sure enjoys life at the moment.
