Remember that IBD is a catch-bucket rather
than a precise diagnosis. What IBD means is
"This ferret has bowel inflammation but we
are not exactly sure why", so there might be
food intolerances or food allergies, or there
might be something bacterial going on, or there
might be something autoimmune going on, or
something congenital kicking up, or...

That means that it is what you go to AFTER
eliminating other possible causes.

Has your vet suggested an ultrasound for this
ferret considering the ferret's medical history?
What type of malignancy was found? Was it
lymphoma in the adrenal gland. That can
happen and lympho is something which can
produce those kinds of symptoms if it goes to
the intestines, but the hopes --of course --
are that there is a different explanation. The
types of possible adrenal malignancies vary
quite a bit in ferrets in how likely they are to
spread.

There are a number of good foods out there;
just don't jump too quickly or on too little evidence
to the conclusion that some good ones are bad,
but if your ferret can not tolerate chicken then
certainly work around that need. We had one
who could not tolerate any poultry at all -- none of
them. Some others have had ferrets who could not
tolerate certain carbohydrate sources. Corn seems
to be mentioned a good bit by those people. I've heard
privately of one who seemed to have an intolerance to
beets (a common ingredient in many ferret foods).
Individuals can vary. Rinkydink could not tolerate beef
and a bunch of other things but his vet and people
found ways to shape a diet around his needs.
