Here is an excellent overview of IBD by the esteemed Dr. Williams:

And for another excellent summary by Angela Lennox, DVM, DABVP, which
includes a table of the drug formulary to treat GI diseases and
another that shows causes of chronic/intermittent diarrhea:

Lennox and Williams discuss various treatment options in their papers.
The short answer is that both Imuran and Prednisone/prednisolone are
used in the medical management of IBD. Antibiotics, like Amoxicillin
or anti-ulcer medications, like carafate are prescribed if there is a
concomitant infection such as Helicobacter. Which combination is given
depends on a number of factors including the etiology of the IBD,
suspected or confirmed other medical conditions, etc.

Williams and Lennox say it infinitely better than I =96 check out
their papers.
