I would double check with the vet that you heard correctly. She may
have said prednisolone but meant prednisone. Tony's correct in that
prednisolone is much gentler on the liver.
I have a 5 year-old foster who was just put on prednisolone. Liver
values were way off (Billirubin, ALP, ALT GGT all elevated).
Had ultra-sound and needle aspirates of liver, stomach lymph nodes and
mesenteric lymph nodes, which were all swollen on US - results
inconclusive. One vet is leaning toward lymphoma, other toward IBD.
He's too frail to undergo exploratory. We ALL agreed to start him on
prednisolone, he's getting 0.20 mL BID (5mg/ml) - he weighs exactly 1
kg.
All of this to say that whether the prednislone is dealing with the IBD
or put a hidden lymphoma into remission - he is MUCH better - more
energy, vastly improved appetite, hind end wobbliness almost disappeared
- still pretty thin but hopefully in time that will also improve. Had
to play around with the dose a bit.
Vets, god bless them are HUMAN - she may have said one thing and meant
another...
