Did any of the vets check for styrene poisoning when doing blood work on Ni=
cNac? It may be too late to test for it now as it may have been broken down=
already - unless there is a piece stuck in his intestines somewhere.
One of my crew, Carl, decided to chow down on something that included foil =
and foam (contents of a gift bag that a house guest left in the ferret zone=
).
He was experiencing similar symptoms to NicNac - pale gums, not eating, let=
hargic, dry skin (itchy) from dehydration, vomiting and diarrhea.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, styrene exposure abo=
ve recommended levels causes short-term effects such as depression, loss of=
concentration, weakness, fatigue and nausea, and its long-term effects, fr=
om a lifetime exposure above recommended levels, include liver and nerve ti=
ssue damage and cancer.
After a few days of intravenous fluids to flush out his kidenys, liver and =
other organs; spoon feeding until he got his appetite back along with immod=
ium and pecid, Carl returned to his old self.
