Working from Jackie's suggestion here is page 168 of _Biology and Diseases of the Ferret_
and there are a number of ways that possibility of Zinc Toxicity might fit but I don't know
enough about that to know if it really does:

lt&resnum=3&ct=result#PPA168,M1>
Be sure to carry in the entire URL minus the < and > at start and finish.
See:

and scroll down
to get more info about the topic for yourselves.
More general search to see what comes up follows...
Now, as you know from past posts Mars Pet Foods have had recalls this year. I notice zinc
mentioned in a question about one of them:

+Regarding+Zinc+Copper>
Okay, on checking the first one salmonella and I will see if I can find the second one that I
think I recall.

Okay, also salmonella:

Sorry, I was trying to find toys or foils that might have been recalled due to high amounts
of zinc. We all know there were such cases with lead this year time after time with toys,
paints, and coatings. There was a supplement recall so if a pet got this there could be
problems:
http://www.tga.gov.au/recalls/2004/zinc.htm
but I see that was in Australia in 2004. Oh, well, at least it tells people in Australia about
one site (tga) to follow for recalls in their nation.
Sorry. I am sleepy.
