Yes, exactly, AND

1. it turns out that if a person reads one of the vet
reports coughing was mentioned (though coughing
does not always happen with heart disease)

2. the ferret has a swollen abdomen and often the
cause of a swollen abdomen is ascites: fluid that
winds up there because the heart is working
insufficiently. The vet would have to decide on
that, though at times a non-vet can lay a ferret on
the back and lightly tap the side of the abdomen;
if it behaves like a water balloon would that increases
the chances that what is being seen is ascites.

A recent post includes a link on how to treat the
most common form of cardiomyopathy, though
there are other heart diseases and the meds need
to be suited to the type and stage of any heart disease
found.

Ascites required a diuretic like Lasix, and there are other
meds which help with aspects of heart function itself.

It is also important to see if a murmur remains. One
vet who contacted me privately wanted to remind
people that anemia itself can create a murmur while
it is going on. Ditto fever and some other things.
