Subject: [ferrethealth] Tapeworms-What are the chances?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I just found out my boyfriend's 5 month old kitten has tapeworms.=A0 We don=
't live together although I have visited him many times in the past month s=
ince he aquired the kitten and he visits me just as often.=A0 He had no kno=
wledge of the tapeworms until today when he called the vet to check up on t=
he kitten after being neutered and the office told him.=A0
=A0
I do not have much to do with the kitten.=A0 I don't think I've ever even p=
et it let alone get close to its litter box.=A0 I'm terribly allergic to ca=
ts and avoid them like the plague.=A0 I read in the archives that tapeworms=
can be transferred through fleas and/or ingestion. =A0I=A0know the kitten =
is free of fleas and I'm pretty sure my ferrets=A0haven't eaten anything th=
ats been around the kitten.=A0 This includes their lack of interest in my=
=A0shoes!=A0 =A0
=A0
So my question is:=A0 What are the chances my 5 ferrets could have indirect=
ly picked up tapeworms from this kitten???=A0 I am leaving to go home, 130 =
miles from my vet,=A0tomorrow after work=A0and I don't want to=A0take=A0wor=
ms with me.=A0 My sister has two ferrets of her own and my=A0family has a d=
og at home.=A0 And most of all, I don't want to start a panic!=A0 I have no=
t noticed any strange potty behaviors from my fuzzies and I check their lit=
ter boxes every night.=A0 All looks good and healthy.=A0=A0Is it safe to tr=
avel=A0home?=A0 Can tapeworms cause any other serious problems?=A0
