Hi Heather,
Good news tapeworms will not be transmitted
via your shoes. Your ferrets will have to actually
eat a flea to get tapeworms. At some point the kitten
must have had a flea and ingested the flea in order to get
tapeworms. Thus it is time to deworm the kitten and apply
a flea product (Frontline, Advantage, Revolution, ProMeris,
Vetra, Comfortis, Advantage Multi, etc) to the kitten.
As long as you do not bring fleas home (from the kitten)
there is no problem and your ferrets will not get tapeworms.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving,
Jerry Murray, DVM
