Hi Bobbi,

Trust your intuition on this, you may be right that he has an infection.
He could also have any number of other things i.e., heart-related, mass
in lungs, etc.

Unfortunately, there is no easy fix and no way around it - ferrets are
expensive little critters to care for. However, it is criticial they
receive veterinary care if something is wrong. They can go downhill
frighteningly quickly without necessary treatment.

If he does have an infection (i.e., pneumonia) he needs to be on the
correct antibiotic for his specific condition. The wrong antibiotic
could make him sicker. And only a veterinarian will be able to
correctly assess the problem and prescribe the appropriate treatment.

If it is something else, then antibiotics won't help and he will get
sicker over time.

Best to bite the bullet and take him to a ferret knowledgeable
veterinarian. Not all medications are expensive. Certainly not more
than an evening out to the movies and pizza or getting one's hair done
or the price of a tank of gas for our vehicle.

Tressie
