i can understand your frustration, kelsey.

[Some non-health stuff removed that the poster
can easily send directly to Kelsey if desired.
If using the website just utilize the scroll for "to"
or if using email just cut and paste. This happens
a lot when people work from email because
Yahoogroups does a bad job of making it clear
when "reply" means direct or to list, so their
design flaw...

Some of the points made below are excellent!

i would continue with whatever diet you are giving for a bit (the
frozen raw and red meat kibble) and just hold off making any more
changes. your little one needs to get back to 'normal' after being
sick and being on meds and a different diet.

all these changes (especially the meds) and the accompanying stress
can affect how the poo looks and it can take weeks and even months
for things to get back to the norm. especially if there is some
kind of ibd issue going on.

after serious infections, there can be some funky poo periodically
and it's just a matter of waiting through it for everything to clear
out and for the system to get back to normal.

i would, of course, keep a close eye on things. if the funky stuff
occurs daily and doesn't seem to be clearing off, then there's still
something happening. could be reinfection (which would lead me to
think the froze raw is at the root or maybe some out of the way spot
that didn't get properly cleaned and he picked up the infection
again - which can happen with viral based things).

if he doesn't return to normal, you may want to discuss with your
vet a different or additional medication to treat for any ibd
issues. carafate makes a big difference as it coats and calms the
stomach so they can tolerate their food better (and will eat more at
a feeding). it's usually used when ulcers are present and sometimes
when the ibd is really bad. there is also imuran which is used if
the ibd is severe and is not responding to pred alone.

i agree with making sure he's hydrated - that makes a big difference
all around and they CAN dehydrate very quickly!

with regard to adding pedialyte to soup. no. pedialyte is prepared
in a precise manner to provide what is needed to replenish
electrolytes. if you mix it with anything (even water) you
completely negate the whole purpose of it. mixing it with anything
removes the balance of the various components that cause it to be
the restorative that it is.
