Subject: [ferrethealth] Does anyone know what could be wrong with my ferret?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

My ferret Jack has been really ill lately.
I took him to the vets, but they just said they didnt know what it was
and that it could be ANYTHING.
So last resort is finding out myself.
Hes only 5 months old, hes a polecat male not neutered.
He is the "runt" of his litter.
He got a cold about a month ago, and he had anti biotics and got better.

Then friday night i bathed him and my other ferrets,
Took him out of the bath dryed him like i always do
And put him down let him eat while i got the others out of hte bath.
He was in the ferret room, nice warm and safe!
I came into the room and he was led completely still not responding.
I went over to him and he still didnt respond.
So i moved him and he wimpered, he rolled onto his side and stopped
moving if it wasnt for the fact i could see his belly moving i would
have thought he was dead.
He didnt move for at all and i was constantly wet under his chin and
belly.
He didnt seem to dry no matter how much i dryed it.
His belly was really swollen and hard.
He started fitting for about 40-50 seconds then stopped.
I didnt move him for about 20 min's then wrapped him up and took him
into my room.
He started responding a little bit more, but still not right.
After 4 hours he was still wet under his chin.
And i stayed up all night with him.
He couldnt walk properly he walks to one side.
We got him to the vets first thing that morning.
They said they dont know what it is and that it could be anything from
insulintoma thru to water toxcity.

They told me to get a urine sample and to wait to see if it happens again.
But i dont want him to go thru that again.
Is there anything this sounds like?
And any tests i can demand to be done?
Thankyou.
