Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: Question about canned dog food for ferret
To: "FHL" <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

Some thoughts on alternatives to canned dog food ... some grocery stores sell frozen rabbit and duck. It is not cheap, but when you figure the coast per ounce vs. the canned specialty stuff, it should be pretty close. I make the Bob's Chicken Gravy for my fuzzies, and when I have one that is sensitive to chicken, I substitute turkey, duck, and/or rabbit. Also, you can ask them to order in some turkey hearts, to supply taurine - I have even pick purchased taurine (it is an amino acid) at the local health food store (ask your vet to help calculate the proper dose). Last, you can order frozen ground rabbit, venison (and I believe, even rat - yuck) on line ... for instance Rodent Pro at http://www.rodentpro.com/products.asp ... good luck, hope your fuzzy does well ...
