Subject: [ferrethealth] Brutus rattle in chest
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi
I am taking Brutus to vets today and was wondering what questions to
ask her and what other things I could tell her if she doesn't know
some of the things learned in this group
And what could it be if pneumonia is ruled out

Also with permission from moderators i would like to get advice from
group memebers
What can I do To find out if it is tumors or masses
I cannot afford to have xrays but I want to get him all the help he
deserves and I don't feel I have the right to make the decsion
to put him to sleep it don't feel right

[Moderator's Note:
For tumors (unlikely) as for pneumonia and heart disease
if the vet agrees there could be a problem x-rays would
be advised. If you can't afford them and the vet thinks
it is worth trying antibiotics in case of infection then the
vet may do that if you explain your circumstances.

Ferret vet care IS expensive and that is the nature of the
beast. Sadly, this means that when funds are limited
they aren't the best pet of choice unless something
can be worked out such as exchange of labor or using
any of the charities that help those with disabilities
provide care such as the ones mentioned in past discussions
and in
http://www.miamiferret.org/fhc/financial_aid.htm

If you are ever unable to provide veterinary care it is
better to give the ferret a chance at having a new family
which can than to kill the ferret:

In fact, people who can't afford ferrets but need a ferret fix
are usually welcome volunteers at shelters since many
have more work than one or two people can handle.]
