Diarrhea can prevent an individual from processing food well
enough and if severe may even prevent the individual from
having high enough blood glucose at times.

How severe is the diarrhea? Is it green (indicating very rapid
transit), black (indicating upper digestive bleeding), grainy
(indicating that the small intestine is not working right and
the fats are not processing well). Does it contain frank
blook (red), or mucus? Does it smell especially bad?

What has this ferret been eating?

Certainly, now that more is known, infection is among the
things that may need to be considered. There are both
contagious infections such as parasitic ones like coccidia
and viral ones like ECE, and ones that could have come
from food or water. From puddles, an aquarium, etc. giardia
is among the possibilities. From food there are others, and
the number of types and risk rates go up if the food is raw.

Also possible is a partial blockage, and if there is bleeding
then injury from the blockage.
