Jeff -- long-term prednisolone use can cause alopecia that mimics
adrenal hair loss. The good news is that a melatonin implant might
help and can do no harm.

Tannis has hair loss that looks very adrenal, but he has been treated
with both melatonin and lupron to no effect, so my vet and I agree
that it is likely simply a result of his pred regimen.

In my experience, adrenal hair loss often starts at the base of the
tail, while pred-related hair loss almost invariably starts at the
shoulders.

There are other ways to test for adrenal tumors/hyperplasia, but as
the palliative treatments are not contra-indicated, I'd just suggest
you talk to your vet about trying 'em to see if they help.
