Is it really black or just very dark? I "think" that meds like Pepto
Bismol can make the stools very dark. Normally, if there is blood,
the black poop will be very tarry. I don't know what you mean by
swallowing/smacking. Two signs of discomfort are grinding the teeth
or pawing at the mouth, so you may be seeing something unrelated.

If you feel there is an ulcer, ask your vet for some carafate
(sucralfate) and give it 20-30 minutes before feedings. I have found
the human pinkish liquid, available from human pharmacies with a
prescription, to be the easiest to give. You should give 1.25mL (I
think it only comes in one strength) prior to each feeding. It coats
any raw areas and allows them to heal. It can't hurt and it can help.
