Some numbers may help here. Ferrets tend to run low white blood cell counts, what was the number and if you have it, what was the percent number of lymphs and neutrophils? They are low in actual number because white cell count is low.

For kidney disease, a creatinine would help more than just the BUN and a urinalysis result- what was the specific gravity?

The low albumin is of concern. If the urine showed protein, that would explain a loss that would cause low albumin. IF no protein, then would wonder about liver issues, or malnutrition. Where the other liver tests done? AST or ALT ( also known as SGOT and SGPT)? And a total bilirubin would also help look at the liver function.

My ferret Piper (4 1/2 years old, spayed, Suprelorin implant 18 November) is
very sick. She was always a very lean and very hyperactive ferret, she went
from completely normal and active to near death's door in less than a week.

Now my glomerulonephritis question. I was in the archives and found the
following quote from Dr. Williams: "Glomerulonephritis is a very specific
disease which is accompanied by loss of protein in the urine." Can I turn
that into "if there is no loss of protein in the urine, there is no
glomerulonephritis"?

Any help *very much* appreciated.

Ulrike
