Subject: [ferrethealth] Sudden onset diarrhea
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

One of my fuzzies, a female approximately 2 years old, is having bad
diarrhea. I noticed it first in the cage this morning when I let them
out (they're mostly free-roam, but they are in their cage at night or
when I'm not home).

It's greenish in color, though not grass-green or bright green, seedy,
and extremely thin and watery but for the seedy part.

I spoke with our vet today who said to give her .3 ml of Pepto 3X day
and bring in a stool sample tomorrow to be checked for parasites. My
question at this point is.. is there anything else I can do for her
until we find out what's causing this exactly.

As for her eating, etc.. I don't often see her eat unless she's in the
cage, because she likes to get the food and carry it off to eat it
elsewhere (she's been this way since I've had her, which is about a
year now). She appears to be as active as she normally is.

One of my bigger, older fuzzies (Tocho, who is about 3.5) has also had
loose stool for a couple of days, but not as bad as I've seen with
Maui, the one who's having the worst time. Tocho I see eating and
playing etc normally. Tocho and two others sleep in one cage, Milo
and Maui (cage mates) sleep in another.

is there anything else I can do for her besides the Pepto? Is there
anything else I should look/watch for? Anything else I should ask the
vet to check for besides parasites?

Again, this was pretty sudden. Her poops were normal about a day and
a half ago. I just noticed the diarrhea this morning.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ella
