I hope you have found an emergency vet by now. Please, please, do not
wait when this happens!! This ia a life and death emergency. The
inability to empty the bladder can cause it to rupture, causing a very
painful death.

A blockage is a blockage. Don't let any vet clinic tell you that they
don't have a "ferret vet". That is ridiculous. Any vet should know
how to empty the bladder. They may not be able to get a catheter into
a ferret (even my very experienced ferret vet was unable to get one
into Madison), but they certainly know the technique to express the
bladder.

I recently went through this with Madison. It was a very long few days
until a Lupron injection finally shrunk the bladder (it took about 84
hours for it to take effect). I had to manually express him around the
clock until that time.

Do not rely on melatonin to correct this problem. It will not resolve
it. I would strongly recommend adrenal surgery once the emergency
problem is resolved. Lupron can help to shrink the prostate in the
meantime. In Madison's case, the Lupron injection shrunk the prostate,
allowing us to give him a week to recover from his ordeal before taking
him into surgery. It turned out to be a left adrenal and was very easy
to remove.

He is perfectly fine now. You would never know what he went through!
