Oldie but goodie

Cause is essential.

Is there an underlying health or dental problem causing pain?

Is the ferret deaf, blind, or both and being startled?

Has someone tried to "train" the ferret with abuse?

Is the ferret simply UNtrained by lack of handling?

Was the ferret separated from Mom too early to have
been properly socialized, meaning more work for you?

Etc.

3 tips:

The ferret has to have at least one one vet check-up,
anyway, and if a young kit then there will be two
follow-up canine distemper shots followed by a
separate rabies shot in the first few months you
have the ferret. The vet can check the dental
eruption and the medical condition. Two dental
problems which can cause pain biting are abscesses
by entrapped baby teeth, or having too small a
dental arcade for the size of the adult teeth.

Does the ferret have a white head or white blaze at
the top of the head? Those are among the markers
which can arise for neural crest genetic variations.
Fro deafness or for blindness see sites like

There is a lot more in the following two archives,
so pardon me for not wriing more but a vitreous
separation in my right eye will be limiting my
time on line for a whie because my good eye tires
fast
