Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: Proscar, Propecia, Avodart?

Need some info please: My 3 year old male ferret, Ramses, had a bilateral adrenalectomy back in March. He has been on lupron 200 mcg monthly (and fludrocortisone and prednisolone) since then. However, he continues to have a swollen prostate, and of course, it looks like he needs finesteride (Propecia, Proscar). However, I was talking to a drug rep who tells me that Avodart (dutasteride) , another Rx for men with hyperplasia, is more effective - in humans - blocks 90% of the conversion of testosterone to DHT, as opposed to finesteride's 60 % ... so, has anyone heard of using Avodart on ferrets? If so, what would the dosage be? Thanks for any info ....
