Subject: [ferrethealth] I'm new/ Sick ferret
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi all,

My name is Rachael and I live in Hastings, NE. I have an animal
rescue, and among my personal pets are 7 beautiful ferrets.

I have a ferret that didnt eat for three days, and after having him
at the vets monday through thursday, my vet was able to narrow down
his condition to insuloma (the opposite of diabetes). I agree with
her diagnoses. We have done blood tests, and he is borderline on his
glucose reading for insuloma. 60 is defiantly, and he ranged at 65.

So, I do not know anyone who has had a ferret with this condition. I
am really worried because he has lost another half of a pound, so 2
pounds in total in just a couple of weeks. He is active, but his
diahreah is so bad his fur is matted and gross. The last couple of
days I have had him on heat pads, so I am afraid to give him a bath,
but have cleaned him up as much as possible with a towel.
What would you suggest I do about the diahreah?

He doesnt want to eat (we adjusted his meds today) so what may spark
his appetite? I have marshall pet, pedigree kitten food, Nutriphase,
Hartz, and Sheppard and Greene. None of these even spark his
appetite. I have tried treats. If its not soft then he wont eat it.

I am new to this diagnoses but I do know ferrets. Im just at a loss
of what to do. Anything you can possibly suggest would be wonderful.

Thanks so much

- Rachael and Mango
