I am glad to hear Goofy is okay. Unfortunately, the chances of it
happening again are higher once he's had an episode.

When it happened to my guy I was told without a doubt that he needed
to be on Lupron, which he was until he had adrenal surgery. However,
he was a good surgical candidate, no other health issues and young -
only 2 years old. I would suggest discussing with your vet putting
him on Lupron as well as Melatonin as is recommended by various
experts, including Jerry Murray, DVM.

Check FHL archives for information on medically managing adrenal
disease versus having surgery.

I have no regrets whatsoever getting the surgery done. It was pretty
nerve-wracking having him into the Emergency Vet Hospital and being
told he needed Lupron and that they didn't have any, nor did they
have a catheter small enough for a ferret. They managed to manually
express him and told me to return every 4 hours to have it done
(refused to show me how)until Monday morning when he could see my vet.

I'll tell you I managed to find a way to reach my vet on his day off
to get the Lupron. To make a long story short, I would strongly
recommend getting the Lupron Depot as well - believe me, you do not
want to risk another blockage nor going through this again. Other
option is to have the adrenal surgery.
