I've had several with prostate issues. One had both glands surgically
removed, was being given proscar, and still blocked three times. He
was started on lupron and had no further issues. Another, that had
also had both glands removed and was being given proscar, was started
on lupron as soon as the issues began and he never blocked. I have
another currently that has not had surgery but was started on lupron
as soon as the prostate issues began and he has had no issues since
(it's been just over one year). I also have three other boys that have
not had surgery that have been on lupron for near two years and I have
seen no prostate issues in any of them.

My point, surgery is not a guarantee against prostate issues, even
when both glands are removed, and *not* opting for surgery does not
guarantee that you *will* see prostate issues if you opt to treat with
lupron alone. Personally, I would recommend lupron either way.
