Colitis can have triggers. One thing to consider for this
little guy is the possibility of a food intolerance or a food
allergy. Those can be rather individual but some common
triggers include poultry (especially chicken), or some grains
(especially corn) according to what FHL members have
encountered in the past, just as for IBD.

Ask your vet if you can try a restricted and bland diet for
your ferret short term, gradually adding other things. There
are some kibbles that don't have such ingredients or have
some but not others, but at first, if you are around enough
to hand feed you may want to try meat baby foods that are
of meats your ferret is not used to such as lamb or beef.

If your ferret does better on that sort of diet then with your
vet's guidance gradually add things till you find when the
problem starts.

Remember to take into account any treats,
supplements, chew-things, and whatever your ferret swipes
from people, other animals, or the floor because those can
be the source of the problem, too. We have one little guy
in our family who is garbage belly and will search floors for
anything dropped and eat those, so we always know when
he has found a corn chip or some cereal because then he
winds up with very messy diarrhea. When he sticks to
their given foods he is fine.

In humans a common trigger of colitis can be milk products
if the people are failing to digest it well enough, and
if not given milk products on a very regular basis that can
certainly happen to ferrets, too.
