A reminder after some private notes:
"cases" can mean the cases in one household
rather than across households.
It is entirely possible for a vet to see different
households with similar symptoms but different
causes. Then different medical approaches
work best.
That isn't only true for primary diseases but also
for complications. I recall two ferrets with secondary
problems during the original ECE. Both of these
little ones of ours had symptoms that seemed the same
to me but our vet noticed a subtle difference that I as
a non-vet could not observe and weigh properly. The
difference in treatments that he wanted to try first
did wonders for those little ones of ours.
An emerging illness is a highly emotional topic for
anyone, but for those who have suffered through
trying to save lives, and especially those in mourning
it is most hard.
