**Well, here's the thing. Pink chicken is not thoroughly cooked.
Whether or not the person feeds a raw diet regularly (and please,
let's not get into the pros and cons of raw feeding, there are
benefits and drawbacks to it as we all know), the fact that the
chicken was pink means that they got undercooked chicken, which could
easily (and likely did) carry a bacteria into their systems. When I
discussed the case with the treating vet, we did talk about the fact
that he had considered a viral cause of the problem, but had decided
against it and in favor of it being food poisoning.

Ground chicken is in fact more of a threat for food poisoning than
whole prey, as the grinding process can spread bacteria throughout
the meat - same for ground beef/pork/other meats.

That's not actually bad news - it means that she doesn't have
whatever this virus is hanging around.**
