Subject: [ferrethealth] Advise please - ferret having seizures
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have a 6 year old ferret who has been having problems for a number of
months now, and to be honest my vet is at a loss. It started with him
clawing at his mouth and salivating alot. My vet did carry out
investigations under anaesthetic and apart from removing a tooth saw
nothing else wrong. We had hoped that the tooth had been the problem
but shortly after the operation Elmo start clawing again. On top of
that he has times when he gets diarrhoea which my vet recommends
treating with Synlox which does appear to get things under control. To
date this is how we have been managing the condition. However this
morning when I checked on him he was shaking slightly and then went
into a very big seizure thrashing his head and legs. He has since come
out of the seizure and I have been able to give him some ferrotone. Has
anyone else any experience of this? None of the vets in our area have
much experience of ferrets and as a result I have little confidence in
their advise. Am I looking at insulomina or brain tumour? Is there
anything I can do to help Elmo? Any advise would be most appreciated.
